And…They’re Off!

DragonsAmongThem_600x900Good morning, everyone! Kyra here with news that my fourth book, and first in a new fantasy romance series, is now available! DRAGONS AMONG THEM is book 1 in the Kingdoms of Fire and Ice trilogy (all set to release this year!) and a fun, sexy adventure akin to ALICE IN WONDERLAND meets GAME OF THRONES. And the best part? It has dragon-shifters. Mmm….dragons…

You can find the book here:

Samhain | Amazon | B&N | Kobo | iTunes

As part of the release, I’ve got a giveaway going on for a $40 Amazon gift card. Be sure to swing by Bewitching Book Tours to follow along for your chance to win. And if you’re looking for a few sexy excerpts, here are today’s stops:

I’ve also included the blurb and excerpt below. Enjoy!

Two worlds. One unstoppable passion. A fiery secret that could destroy them all.

Prince Zayne Godfrey, heir to Edana’s throne, is betrothed to the lone princess of rival kingdom Forath. While his heart is not in the arranged marriage, he will do his royal duty.

When he finds a beautiful stranger cornered by a pack of wolves, he doesn’t hesitate to shift into his golden dragon form to save her. She thanks him by taking one look at him and fainting dead away.

Photographer Adelaide Miller is in England for a career-making shoot when a bizarre jogging mishap lands her in a dangerous, medieval-like world of royals, wizards and dragon-shifting men. Her first instinct is to find her way back, but the fire-breathing prince intent on protecting her threatens to melt her heart.

Zayne’s burning passion for Adelaide not only jeopardizes the fragile peace between two kingdoms, it uncovers a ruthless plot to destroy his family. Remaining together may change Adelaide’s very definition of home—and expose one searing secret that could forever shift the balance of power in Zayne’s world.

The wedding.

Zayne shook the thought from his mind. He had come here to forget his impending doom, not wallow in self-pity.

The prince drew an arrow from the quiver on his back, nocked it to his favorite bow, then shifted away from the oak and lined up his shot on the buck. During battle, the action would have taken him but a second—two, perhaps, if he were dodging an attack. Here in the deep woods where any sudden movement would give his location away, it took several minutes. Time well spent, he knew from experience, if it resulted in fresh venison for dinner.

The deer raised its head and stared in the direction of his hunter with unseeing eyes, ears twitching as he chewed. Zayne held his stance, praying his patience would pay off. After a long moment, the great beast turned its rack in the opposite direction. A victorious smile tugged at Zayne’s lips as he squared his shoulders, took a deep breath to steady his aim—

A woman’s scream shattered the forest.

The arrow slipped from his fingers and sailed six feet over the startled buck’s head. In a flash, he drew another, but the opportunity was already lost. The deer zigzagged over brush and bramble, bounding away to seek refuge in the darkest depths of the forest, and Zayne cursed his own arrogance. He’d taken too long, been too sure of himself. And while his stomach rumbled painfully at the thought of foregoing his anticipated evening meal, he knew better than to pursue the beast. Dangers far greater than the dark awaited him in that direction, and no buck was worth the risk.

A second high-pitched scream sounded, closer this time, and commanded his attention. Whoever joined him in the woods today sounded terrified, not hurt. Lord knew he’d been through enough skirmishes to recognize the subtle differences.

Zayne slung his bow onto his back and charged forward, sacrificing stealth for speed to try to reach the woman before one pitch bled into the other. Thick underbrush snagged at his clothes and sliced his skin, but still he surged forward. It would have been easier for him to transform, faster even, but then his whereabouts would be discovered, and he was not yet ready to return and face his father. Or his betrothed.

The wall of vegetation around him thinned as he drew upon a small clearing. Zayne slowed to quiet his footsteps, then stopped altogether as the scene before him came into view. A pack of wolves milled around one side of the clearing, snapping and snarling as they pawed at their muzzles. Across from them stood the clearing’s other inhabitant: a lone peasant woman.

The source of the screams.

Her outer layers of clothing must have been ripped away during her attempted escape, as she stood quaking in scraps of clothing the likes of which Zayne had never seen before. The bizarre black-and-purple fabric failed to do much more than contain her supple bosom, rounded hips, and slim thighs. Her long, golden hair was pinned up and back and, though mussed, offered him a clear view of her delicate shoulders and creamy pale skin. But what struck him the most was her eyes—startling blue, like brilliant sapphire ice.

A ray of sun broke through the clouds and washed over her, giving the girl an angelic appearance. Never had he seen a woman more beautiful. The sight took his very breath away.

A wolf stepped free from the pack, and the air around Zayne began to swirl. He gasped, as helpless to resist the beast within as he was to draw his next breath. Never before had the transformation begun without his prompting, nor surged forward with such haste. An armor of golden scales replaced his skin, his fingers stretched into talons, and human logic gave way to animal instinct. As the growing fire within his chest sought to consume him, Zayne could comprehend but three things:

He must save her.

He must protect her.

He must have her.

So what do you think, do dragons sound like fun to you?

Setbacks and Forward Thinking – Kyra Jacobs

Setbacks and Forward Thinking – Kyra Jacobs

Ah, 2015. You can’t end soon enough.

Anyone else feeling that way this year? lol

I so loved Sabine’s post last week about “This too shall pass”, a phrase that’s has helped me through some rocky times these past few months. That, and the serenity prayer.

Though, I have to admit, I like the Seinfeld version a bit better.

Ah, but no matter which section of the roller coaster of life I’m on, I strive to look for the positives. Because really? Life’s too damned short to sit around wallowing in the “what if” ‘s  or the “coulda been” ‘s. Chuck Swindoll said once that life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.

In other words, it’s your life–make the most of it.

So that’s what I’m doing. Facing forward, leaving the past in the past. Being grateful for all I’ve been through, as it’s helped shape me into who I am today, and savoring every bit of good in the here and now. And how can I not, when there’s so much awesomeness on the horizon in 2016?

I have 4 books slated for release in 2016. FOUR !! That’s one more than I currently have on my backlist, and I’m freaking stoked. Three are in a new fantasy romance series from Samhain with sexy dragon-shifting men (oh, baby…) and book 2 in my Checkberry Inn sweet romance series with Entangled (book 3 is slated for early 2017).

Ideas are hitting me from every direction, and the writing momentum is on the upswing. And when it falters–which it does, so goes the writer’s life–then I’ll give my brain a few days’ rest and wait for the ideas to strike again. Play a little tennis or soccer with the kids, immerse myself in my flowerbeds. In other words, disconnect from the laptop for a short while. So far, that’s been working for me.

How about you? What do you do to shake off the funk? Great minds want to know…

Here’s to a KickAss year in 2016!

Fun Guy Friday with Dude Perfect

Happy Friday, everyone! When my sons aren’t out playing sports they’re often perusing Youtube for funny videos that revolve around sporting events. They stumbled across these guys a while back, and I have to admit–I find Dude Perfect freaking hilarious.

(Can’t help it, I love dumb humor. The move Dodgeball? Yep love it.)

So here are a few of my Dude Perfect favs, but feel free to check them all out. Seriously, hours of free entertainment at your fingertips, and good clean fun. The second clip even features Paul Rudd, who the KAChicks all love and adore.

WARNING: do not watch while consuming food or beverages. 😉

Enjoy and have a kickass weekend, everyone!

Books Kicking Ass: Her Backup Boyfriend by Ashlee Mallory

Happy Monday, everyone! Going to kick off November with a sweet contemporary romance set in the same time of year. Convenient, eh? Totally unplanned, I assure you. But when Ashlee Mallory’s first book in the Sorensen Family series hit USA Today Bestseller status last month, I snatched up a copy to see what all the excitement was about. And I LOVED it. Not overly spicy, no over-the-top dramatic conflict, just a wonderful, sweet read with two awesome leads who are perfect together (once they figure out that, yes, they really CAN be together).

Even better? Book 2 just came out and it’s on sale for 99 cents this week. Needless to say, I just grabbed my own copy to devour during my next binge-read session.

So here’s a little something sweet, to get you ready for the holidays and all those desserts coming out ways…

Her BackupOne little white lie leads to more than she planned…

Straight-laced lawyer Kate Matthews always plays by the rules. But when her ex gets engaged and a big promotion is on the line at work, she blurts out that she has a new boyfriend. And now that she’s proved she “has a life” outside of work, everything is perfect. Except for one teeny little detail―there is no boyfriend. And now Kate’s liable for her little white lie…

Dominic Sorensen is hot, charming, and very definitely not Kate’s type. But not only does Dominic want to help Kate renovate her home, he’s also willing to play “boyfriend.” All he wants in return is a little pro bono work for his sister. Now instead of Mr. Right, Kate has a delectable Mr. Fix-It-Right―and some unbelievable sexual chemistry. And if falling for Dominic is a breach of contract, Kate is guilty as charged…

Go take a look and catch the first chapter here:

You can find links to all of Ashlee’s books and social media outlets from her website.

Happy November, everyone!

Honorary Chick: Gabrielle Battistel

Honorary Chick: Gabrielle Battistel

Happy Thursday, everyone! It’s my turn to highlight an individual I feel is deserved of “Honorary Chick” status, and today’s guest is someone I’ve had on my “to be nominated” list since we began:  Gabrielle Battistel.

TRM_PICFor those of you who have been around the blog block a time or two, you may recognize Gabrielle as the author behind the GabbaWrites blog (formerly on blogspot, now on WordPress and Facebook). She’s attended online writing classes with me, had her writing featured in a wonderful Australian anthology, and even started her own absolutely amazing, author-centric video production company named Trailermade Production. (FYI–if you see something animated on my website, it came from TMP.)

Today’s feature, though, isn’t a sales pitch for her company or its services. Rather, it’s a spotlight being shined on one fantastically amazing and supportive individual who has come alongside countless authors to offer her unfailing encouragement, guidance, wit and charm. Writing can be a very lonely process, and as such many writers I’ve chatted with struggle from time to time with worry, anxiety, doubt, and even envy. But when you have individuals like Gabba in your corner, always there smiling and encouraging you to keep on keeping on, well they’re the ones who make authors love what we do…and convince us to continue onward even when the words don’t seem to want to come. P AT THE KA CHICKS FB PARTYAnd of course her P-Boi panda has graced many a screen on the Book of Face, and those of us who are “Doin’ it Posse Style” always look forward to seeing where P might pop up next.

So in honor of her tireless cheerleading, her forward thinking and her totally kickass accent, may I present to you my lovely and talented dear friend from halfway across the globe: Gabrielle Battistel.

So…tell us a little about yourself.

I’m an organically inspired, pragmatically steered type who has one foot squarely rooted to the ground with the other on the ascent. I’m interesting, engaging, boring and persnickety, cheeky, funny, serious, dry and (people say) fun to be around…. Wit, earth-like intuitive, weirdo and wisdom are also the descriptive bandied around of my presence.

I am the founder, chief creative and manager of a boutique style–full service Audio Visual Production Company that focuses on the publishing sector. I’m also trying to be a writer … needs must.

I have two dogs, a husband and a life surrounded by gum trees in Australia.

What inspired you to launch TMP, and what do you enjoy most about it?

trm ka billboardThe marriage of two loves launched Trailermade. Writing and Audio Visual/Filmmaking brought something I know and love together. Saw a gap, went and filled it (thanks to great clients). It’s a great space to be in since the creative and technical process, the writers themselves and the stories they tell leave me at times questioning my day to day… vis a vis:  “Is this legal to enjoy myself this much?” #lovewhatido

What are the top three things you would encourage authors to avoid when creating/commissioning a book trailer?

When it comes to both creating and commissioning trailers:

  1. Avoid Trite…. Please… avoid the trite. There are a lot of books out there and things can get confusing. Know what you think (for absolute certain) and think about what you know. Ask yourself: Is what you’re seeing – really what is to be seen?
  2. Know your brand. Both your Author and book brand (like the back of your hand).
  3. Do your best to be professional to your author ethic/presence, to others you have commissioned and to the broader world within your “corporate identity.” Reaching out into a very competitive world can be daunting but it is possible to be remembered for the right reason.

Now for some fun–here comes the Rapid Fire Questions…

Favorite Things: My mutty dogs (though technically they are people not things). Also, only suddenly realizing that it has been two hours since I picked up a book (thinking that the vacuuming should have been done couple of hours ago). Yeah totes sorry about that… am on my way!!!!

Pet Peeves: Inconsiderate people who do so on purpose.

Addictions:  Potato chips… and when the groove is on… making trailers and good books. Good conversation will keep me up all night too.

Kick Ass Superpower: Making Trailers that give people goosebumps (and make people go and buy books – it happens)

Your best book boyfriend…

  • For the night: Detective Lincoln Drummond. (Pieces Of A Lie, by Rowena Holloway) complex, interesting, passionate. He reminds me of those cordoned off places in castles and manor houses…curiosity levels at an all time high but they’re cordoned off for a reason.
  • For a dirty weekend: Now don’t take this the wrong way (no bias intended I’m sorry….) Nate Steele…(Armed With Steele by Kyra Jacobs). He’s a dog lover, is honourable to a damsel in distress (of her own making) and is Indiana enough for a good time!!!!
  • To have and to hold: Mr Darcy (hey that’s a really tough call though… the real life “have and to hold” is actually in my bed!!!!!)
Many thanks to you and the KA crew for having me!!!
And thank you for being exactly who you are and for all you do, Gabrielle. Best wishes in all of your endeavors!

For a little extra fun (and not just because she listed my Nate as a book boyfriend, I promise), I’m including a link to one of our recent skype chats where I try to explain just what panda P-Boi and Posse Style means to me…  And I will warn you: with the 15 hour time difference between us, I may have been a bit tired/giggly by this point in our conversation. But the comments were heartfelt, and the images perfect for sharing a glimpse into the world of GabbaWrites. Have a great weekend, everyone, and be sure to say hello to Gabrielle while you’re here!

We’re continuing the “First Meets” blog series today with me reading an excerpt from my latest sweet contemporary romance HER UNEXPECTED DETOUR (Book 1 in the Checkerberry Inn series). And, like Sabine, I’m cheating a little – this is technically the main characters’ second meeting.

Everyone is welcome and we’d love to see you there. Just click here to join the fun.

Equal Opportunity Smoothness

Happy Friday everyone! And, wow, TGI!!!!

This week for Fun Guy Friday I’m going back to the basics: videos of people falling down. Only, they’re falling with style. They’re smooth. And it’s even equal opportunity, with men and women alike showing us their moves as they do their best to save face.

(Watch for the treadmill guy…he’s my fav…)

Enjoy, and here’s to the start of a great weekend!
